Roach! Two weeks, two Wednesday night rockers. Not a bad deal as of late. Last night I went to see the Groovie Ghoulies play at Fitzgerald's here in Houston, TX, and they rocked as usual. This show they had a different line-up then the last time I saw them, which was different as the time I saw them before, which in turn was different from the time before....well, I have never seen the Ghoulies have the same line-up two trips to Houston in a row. The new addition this trip was Amy, the drummer. Last trip here they still has Jaz behind the kit, but now we have Amy. She was way impressive. She didn't miss a beat, and she could fly. B-face was on bass for the show, Roach on guitar, and Kepi sung his heart out as usual. Everytime I see this band they get better. At this particular show, the crowd was small. They got stuck opening for former members of Urge Overkill. Not really a Groovie Ghoulies kinda gig, but they played a great set. Most of the people there came to see the Ghoulies, and it was nice to be surrounded by people who loved the band as opposed to people just coming to a show.

For those of you who haven't ever seen the Groovie Ghoulies, you're missing out on an impressive spectacle. The stage setup looks like something off the Addams Family. There are various little dolls lying about, Halloween candy, pumpkin lights, monster pictures drawn on amps, and of course, songs about monsters, vampires, lost love, and tales of urban legend. As usual, Kepi came out with his painted on eye mask, and the show was under way. The whole set rocked. Kepi was happy because someone gave him power beads, because as he said "I ran out of my cans of free Red Bull". They tore through songs cover many albums, and got everyone into the show with no problem. Roach was sizzling with her chuck berry-ish leads, B-face was killer on the bass, and Amy was a madwoman on the drums. It was nice to see, and I loved every moment of the show.

As the show was winding down, the energy stayed high. The only reason they stopped was because the soundman told them they only had five minutes left, and they still did 2 songs after that. The Groovie Ghoulies do an awesome job of catering to the fans, and giving them as much rock as they can put into a set, no matter how long it is. If you haven't seen this band, you need to see them as soon as you can, they're awesome. After the show, I was was lucky enough to get to talk with Kepi, and he was really a nice person. Till next time, take care and fight the good fight! Late!
