In today's "Closed minded" world, where music is judged on by how fast
the drums are, or how loud the guitar is, even in the (sad to say) ska
movement. Where the "Ska-Core" bands dominate the radio play and pose as real
"Rude Boys" but know nothing of Ska music's rich past.
There is one band however that was there from the beginning of it all and is still touring the world. Yes, it is the "Fathers of Ska" the Skatalites.
After a 40 year period and the deaths of some of the founding members, the
Skatalites are still around and know not of what the phrase "Call it quits"
means. They won't stop until the whole world is dancing to that "Kingston
beat" in perfect unity.
The era of the Skatalites continues with this 1997 release, "Ball of
Fire". The name is very appropriate for the album, because the album contains
10 scorching instrumental tracks, so bring a glass of water with you, if you
can't stand the heat.
The band has taught yet another generation about what Ska music really
is. We are grateful for that. So bow your heads with respect for this amazing
group, because without them Ska, Raggae, Rocksteady, and even your Ska-core
bands would not exist. Peace!
