Being the relatively new band in the NYHC family On The Rise is already making a name for themselves through constant playing. I have had a few chances to check this band out and I am really impressed by their tightness and their old school sound.
I purchased their 3 song EP called "Straight From The Heart," and was quickly impressed. The songs, just like the title suggests, sound like they are played straight from the heart. This band is everything I love about hardcore and then some. And if the CD is not enough, the band throws in a free sticker-if you are still not impressed, perhaps this is a bit out of your league.
The E.P. is produced by Roger Miret (Agnostic Front) so you know it's gold. Roger did a very good job with the album. The EP is well produced, but not over-produced, which gives you that great hardcore sound, and does not sound watered down like other imitations seen on TV.
The one bad thing about this EP is that it only has 3 songs, and lasts just under 9 minutes, which is good for a hardcore CD, but only 9 minutes of great music is kind of a tease. If you are planning to go somewhere far, make sure you have some other CDs along with you. Fear not, however, because the band is putting final touches on their full length album which will have 12 songs. So, if you like this EP, and I know you will, go ahead and invest in their full length which should be out by the time summer comes around.
